4 Tips for Creating a Mobile Friendly Website

Created On: 11 September, 2015 Created By: superadmin

As you’re all probably well aware by now, technology is advancing at a pretty alarming rate, which is a trend that looks set to continue for the foreseeable future. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that smart phones and tablets now play such an integral role in day to day living. More than one in two individuals now own a smart phone or tablet, with more and more people browsing the net via these devices, as opposed to PCs and Laptops. Because of this, there has been a lot of talk about mobile friendly websites and software lately, and for good reason too. More and more website design firms and companies are being asked to create mobile friendly websites for businesses all over the world. Despite what some may tell you however, creating websites of this nature is not simple or straightforward. Here’s a look at 4 tips designed to help you create the ultimate mobile friendly website.

Ensure visitors are directed to the right version of your site – When creating a website which is accessible to mobile devices, one of the first things you will need to do, is make sure that your visitors are being directed to the right site. You should now have your standard website, as well as the mobile friendly version of your site as well. When users visit your site via their mobile devices, you need to ensure that they’re automatically directed to the mobile friendly version of your site. You must ensure your server recognises and identifies mobile devices, and directs them accordingly.

Simplicity is the key – When it comes to smart devices and websites, simplicity is most certainly the key, so the simpler you keep your site, the better. With regular sites, trying to cram too much content onto each page can have negative effects, but with mobile websites, keeping things as basic as possible as absolutely essential. You don’t want images or videos dotted all over the place, just as you don’t want unnecessary walls of text either. You want to say what you want to say, as quickly and as simply as possible. User-friendliness is therefore, absolutely vital.

Don’t forget branding – We mentioned previously, the importance of keeping things simple, but that doesn’t mean that your mobile friendly site should be made up of plain white pages, with the odd paragraph here and there. You still need to brand your website and make it stand out slightly, which, whilst being trickier on mobile sites, is still very achievable. You can incorporate your brand name, logo, and your colours for each page for example, having your logo displayed in the top or bottom corner somewhere maybe?

Get the sizing and the design correct – When having a mobile friendly website created, your designers will obviously be in contact with you throughout, offering help and advice whilst listening to any special requests you may have. For example, you will need to ensure that buttons and links are displayed in just the right size that they show up perfectly on mobile device screens, without the need to zoom in or out. They also need to be spaced accordingly, to prevent the wrong button being tapped, which, as many of you will be able to relate to, is incredibly annoying.
